Real Sociedad star Zubimendi emerged as a target for Liverpool this summer as they looked to trigger the Spaniard's €60 million (£51.3m/65.5m) release clause ahead of the start of the 2024/25 season. However, as per Relevo, the Real Sociedad midfielder has rejected the offer in favour of staying for another season at Anoeta Stadium.

Liverpool had identified a new No 6 as the club’s main priority in the summer transfer window. However, they were not happy with the Spaniard's delay in considering his future and had set an August 14 deadline for a decision. Zubimendi has now opted to stay with La Real which will come as a disappointment to the Reds just days ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

Liverpool are yet to make a single transfer this summer under the leadership of Arne Slot but remain on the hunt for new signings. Slot has told the media: "I think I said as a club like we are, we’re always looking if we can strengthen the squad but it’s not so easy to strengthen if you saw both games today. If we can, we will (strengthen the squad).
“I’ve said many times before that I’ve inherited a really strong team. If we can and if we think it’s possible, we will strengthen the squad but only if we think we can and if it’s possible.”
WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?
The Reds' Premier League season is set to begin on August 17 with a clash against Ipswich Town. It seems almost impossible that Liverpool will be able to sign a new pivot by then but they do still have time to add to their squad before the summer window closes.
